Dr. Smaragda Sotiraki is a Veterinarian and Director of the Institute of Veterinary Research (VRI) of ELGO-DIMITRA, specializing in Veterinary Parasitology. She holds a DVM and PhD from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed a two-year Marie Curie-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She is a Diplomate of the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC) and has been a member of its Executive Board since 2018, currently serving as President. She has extensive experience in the implementation and management of research projects, having participated in over 40 national and international projects, many of which she has coordinated. She has published more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific papers, with a high citation record (h-index 32) and has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences. Her research focuses on the prevention and control of parasitic diseases in animals and humans, within the One Health framework, with an emphasis on innovative approaches and strategies integrated disease management in livestock and spread of parasitic zoonoses.
