The Gender Equality Committee (GEC) of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DIMITRA (ELGO-DIMITRA) was initially established in March 2022 (by decision of the Board of Directors), in accordance with Law 4604/2019 (Government Gazette 50A/26-3-2019).
Following the legislative institutionalization of Gender Equality Committees in Research Centers and Research Institutes (Article 58 of Law 5019/2023), the GEC of ELGO-DIMITRA was renamed the Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee (GEADC) and continued its operation until the end of its three-year term.
On January 7, 2025, the Board of Directors of ELGO-DIMITRA approved the Internal Operating Regulation of the Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee of ELGO-DIMITRA. Furthermore, on May 20, 2025, the composition of the new GEADC of the organization was also approved. It consists of the following regular and alternate members:
The main goal of the GEADC is to create a framework that ensures tangible support for gender equality and fosters favorable conditions for addressing discrimination and inequalities. These inequalities may involve less favorable treatment of an individual based on age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religious or other beliefs, sex, and sexual orientation.
At the same time, the GEADC aims to raise awareness among the organization’s personnel on issues of gender equality and the fight against discrimination and inequalities. It also oversees the development and implementation of a Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Plan (GEADP) across all levels of operation and in all processes and practices of ELGO-DIMITRA.
The implementation period of ELGO-DIMITRA’s GEADP has been extended until the end of 2025, at which point the updated GEADP is expected to be released.
